About Me

I’m J.S. Burton, an editor who believes that language is our shared human super power and that even the best writer can benefit from working with an insightful editor.

After graduating with an MFA in fiction from CSU in 2009, I taught writing courses there until 2014, when I became a writer and editor in the tech industry.

Since 2010, I have contributed development editing, line editing, and proofreading to the many stories, essays, novels, memoirs, anthologies, nonfiction books, and children’s books that the members of my writers group have published. I love to see a writer holding their just-published book in their hands and to know that I helped in that process!

My writing has been curated on Medium, and published in literary journals such as Matter Journal, The Laurel Review, and broadstreet. The story published in broadstreet was nominated for a Pushcart prize.

What This Has to Do With You

Because I have dedicated my life to writing and editing, I am ready to help you get your words out into the world.

Because I know the joys, sorrows, challenges, and triumphs that come with being a writer, I am a humble but passionate editor. Any editorial guidance that I offer always comes from a place of respect and aspiration for both the writer and the work.

What Comes Next?

Wherever you are on your journey as a writer, wherever your work is on its journey, I look forward to hearing from you and discovering how I can help you take the next step.
